Brabus Takes The Mercedes Maybach S680 To New Heights

Jun 02, 2023Jun 02, 2023

Brabus has launched its reinterpretation of the Mercedes-Maybach S680, with it becoming the Brabus 850 with 850 hp.

Brabus is one of the most famous tuners in the automotive world, with a main focus on Mercedes vehicles such as sedans and the iconic Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon. The latest beast from the German tuners is this epic Mercedes-Maybach S680 V12, taking the luxury sedan and creating the Mercedes-Maybach Brabus 850. That number is an indication of the power the sedan now makes.

A larger bore and various other changes to the engine make this luxury sedan one of the most powerful money can buy.

Under the hood of the S680 is a 6.0-liter V12 engine making 621 hp. But for Brabus, that power level isn’t enough, so the engine is now bored out to 6.3 liters, with new forged pistons, a custom billet crankshaft, and new connecting rods all part of the package.

Add in larger turbochargers and the Maybach now produces 850 hp and 1,033 lb-ft of torque. Brabus has, however, dialed back the torque electronically to 811 lb-ft, likely to help protect the nine-speed automatic transmission and the all-wheel drive system.

Brabus has conducted further enhancements to the Maybach as well, with two air filter housings gulping air through two newly designed air ducts via the radiator grille. The company has also worked to improve the injection of the Mercedes-Maybach, as well as the ignition and boost control functions thanks to some new mappings for the sedan.

Performance-wise, the Brabus 850 has a 0-62 mph time of just 4.1 seconds, while the electronically limited top speed is 155 mph.

The performance side of the Maybach has received a lot of attention, but Brabus has also enhanced the car’s appearance thanks to a carbon fiber package. The package includes various aerodynamic parts such as a new front lip spoiler, side air intake surrounds, and the carbon rear diffuser. The package is available in either a high-gloss or matte finish, while stainless steel high-performance exhaust pipes look good and allow for adjustable sound levels thanks to its butterfly valves.

The interior also has had attention, with carbon accenting the steering wheel and center console plus other areas, with even the pedals made from carbon. The Brabus 850 naturally has a high active price, currently retailing at $515,016 with current exchange rates.
